Dean supporters
Someone here said this, "Until I saw Clark on cspan in that NH town hall meeting, I figured I'd vote for the Democrat."

I saw the meeting, and hell the General rocks.

I'm a Clarkie, and I wonder what you Deanies (if I may) tell yourselves about your candidates electability in the general elections?

Do you REALLY think he'll win?

It's a puzzle to me.

2. That's funny
At our (Dean) meet up this week, an ex-clarkie said Dean's appearance on Hardball "locked" him in for Dean. The morale is that everyone has their trip points and, Yes, I "REALLY" think Dean will win.

3. Why wouldn't he?
He's very charismatic, responsive, and even pretty centrist.

Plus he realizes you have to attack the incumbent if you're going to win the general election.

People are worried that he gets painted as an ultraliberal by the lying liars, but they would do that to any front-runner. When Clark first announced, Rush Limbaugh attacked him. They'd do that to anyone. I like Dean over any of the "War Vote Four" because he really seems to fight back. I've seen Clark do pretty well against a Fox News reporter too.

8. If I didn't, I wouldn't be wasting my time.
To be honest, I'd had it with American politics as usual so badly that I withdrew from all party politics. There are not many parties with serious support who would adopt a radical leftist and I was massively frustrated by an apathetic fascist-appeasing public opinion.

Well the Dean phenomenon has shaken me awake. I realize he is not near as left as I am, but that's not the point. What he does for me is A) Offer a true hope to overthrow that gang of international thugs occupying the White House, and B) overhaul the stagnate Dem/Repub political paradigm by invigorating public participation again. In my 43 years I have never seen anything that seems to excite people so much as this guy. And that is not a bad thing at all.

Actually, I'm 40 years old--so not quite old enough to remember the Kennedy's, but to be honest, I've never seen anyone like Dean running for president, not even Clinton. He's stirring up the people--he's actually my dream candidate. Dean is someone who understands how important it is to get what has become an apathetic electorate excited and involved in their country's political process again, other than pulling a lever (so to speak) every couple of years. He also understands how important it is to get people to invest in his campaign, whether it is monetarily or with their time, creativity and energy--because once a person invests in something, they will feel a part of it and likely stick around for the duration. Someone said, 'Howard Dean is made of people!', and that is very true. Thousands of people are pouring their hearts and souls into this campaign, and that is quite an investment. It is so refreshing to see a politician show interest in what the ordinary American thinks and wants.

22. He will face EXACTLY what he has been facing for
the past 6 months. The other dem candidates have scrounged VT looking for anything, and listening to every speech looking for any misstep, and yet Dean has only surged. I highly doubt that shrub will find anything serious enough to bring down Dean, not to mention Dean will be able to spend enough money to combat shrub's wallet.

IF his momentum continues, and he keeps true to his message, he's as good as in.

on all of the Dem presidential candidates as many of us have. If you want to know more about Dean, try his web site, for starters. Read up on the policies Dean wants to implement if elected. Look up his record in Vermont. Check out the blog, and the responses. It's all here:

http://www.deanforamerica.com

Also, read what his critics say about him. If you like Clark, great. Go with him. I think he's a fine candidate. Nothing anyone says here is going to make up your mind for you.

20. for the same reason
that you think Clark can win....

No Dem is going to walk to the nomination...

For all you love Clark, he has as many negatives going against him in the general election than any other Dem...

What Dean has that none of the others have is feet on the ground...I have seen it in action because I myself have been going door to door registering voters, winning over people to Dean....and you know what.....I don't see anyone else in the neighborhood!

Dean will win because:

1) By the time of the general election he will have 3 million people walking through the streets of America getting out the word.....who will flood the marginal states in the weeks before election day to ensure the GOTV gets out...

2) The $50 k he raised for the Iowa Dem House member is a drop in the bucket...the campaign has targeted 20 House seats that are marginal to go after in the election....

3) Every time someone for the right side runs an ad or raises cash, the bat comes out and we smash the amount asked for....as we speak Dean is putting together ads to respond to the attack ads that the repugs are going to run against him....

4) Going to Mett-Up I see independents and even conservatives who are coming over to our side...disgusted by the nonsense of this group of thugs...

4) And the main reason I know he will win is that the repugs have come out of the shadows and actually started to take the governor on...this early in the season...they're scared...you can smell it!!!

Yes Dean has some negatives....but so too does the current Commander-in-Thief....and unlike the other Dem candidates, Dean has shown that he can take punches, and throw as many if not more....

So...why do you think Clark can win....and I'd like an answer other than he neutralizes Bush's commander-in-chief response....what else? The grass roots? What?

Just asking?

See my first post, that was back in the day for me, and I feel the same now.

Did you see the exeter thing on cspan the other day?

My dad says, "He keeps impressing me more every time I see him (I'm like, "Yeah, I know how it goes.) But, hell if the man didn't blow me away AGAIN with the thing at exeter.

Sheesh.

The man is brilliant, and the repubs are scared of him, why do you think that is? My impression of Deanie's (if I may) is that they're more emotionally invested than the are tactically minded. I want bush out, and I know how it can be done.

Nominate the General, It will be done.

29. If your guy can't beat Dean...
he cant beat Bush...plain and simple....

And I have seen him....and I find nothing more inspiring than Dean...

I also love the choice of words you use to convey you attitudes about Dean supporters....

"emotional" Dean supporters are giving us a "weak" candidate.....turn down the testosterone dude! Next thing you'll be saying is that your candidate can beat up my candidate....

whew....

If your guy cant beat my guy..there is no way no how under any scenario you can paint that your guy would've won....plain and simple...again....say it as much as you want...as many times as you want....but any candidate who cant win their own party's primary couldnt win the general....sorry!

And I for one am proud of the field of candidates we have...while I believe that some candidates are not viable in the general election I think that anyone of the following candidates has the possibility to beat Bush...should they win the nomination...

Clark
Dean
Edwards
Kerry

and I will fight tooth and nail to get anyone of them there...so ask yourself which one of us is being emotional and unrealistic about who can beat Bush in the general....if you want data to back up my argument...something I notice your posts lack...

In every poll conducted where they pair the candidates against Bush in state polls, the four Dems I mentioned above are all within the same margin of error in the race for Bush...no one Dem stands out ahead of the other four in any way significant..which anyone should expect with nine candidates in the field....

Please exlain to me where you get you ability to predict outcomes any better than anyone else...and what that is based upon...please provide some sort of data...or other wise you just have another opinion...nothing more...believe me....and we all know what opinions are like....

21. if you think you can win, you can.
My high school football coach made us memorize a poem with that line in it.

the race doesn't allways go
the faster or quicker man
but sooner or latter
the fellow who wins
Is the fellow who thinks he can.

Or something like that.

of course, almost ANY of the dem candidates COULD beat bush. The reason Deaniacs support Dean is because he gives them faith in themselves, in each other and in the country. If I am willing to commit to Dean taking Virginia, and enough other people are willing to commit to Dean taking their state, then we win.

This means I'm willing to print up 1,000 copies of the new pamphlet and hand them out at the Safeway grocery store. (I haven't done it yet, but I will.)

Dean will win because he's convinced people that if they make the effort they will get the result - so we make the effort. And since he's surging in the polls, it seems like we are getting the results.

I think you get the idea.

The reality is, that at this point, seven months before the convention, and just under a year before the election itself, Dean seems best positioned to get the nomination. I'm a Dean supporter myself, contribute money, host a meetup, register voters, and so on. But July is a long way away, and November even longer. Who knows what will happen between now and then, what the world will be like.

I have absolutely no trust that the election will actually be a fair and honest one, and I'm seriously working on my exit strategy if Bush remains in power.

28. Actually, I wasn't intending to
blue sky your question (that's new phrase to me, but I gather it means basically that I didn't answer) so let me try another way.

Yes. I think that Dean will get the nomination, and I believe that in a fair and honest election he will win. I keep on hearing from Democrats who should know better, who are supporters of certain other candidates, say they won't vote if their guy isn't the nominee. THAT attitude, if held by enough people, will keep Bush in the White House.

Dean has a phenomenal degree of organization. Over 500,000 have registered on his website. More than 150,000 have registered for the Dean Meetup, although I'm not sure just how many showed up for the most recent Meetup two days ago. The Dean people are doing the kinds of grass roots organizing that normally wins elections. We're registering voters. We're raising money. We're collecting signatures on petitions to get him on the caucus ballot in Kansas. Basic stuff.

Which isn't to say the supporters of the other candidates aren't doing many of the same things, but they don't have the numbers and they don't seem (collectively) to have the same degree of enthusiasm. I'm not intending to insult anyone's committment to any candidate. It's just that Dean's numbers are large and growing steadily.

But if any of us, no matter who we support, decide we can only vote for our guy in the general election, then it really will be all over.

I for one do not expect a clean campaign nor a fair, free, and honest election. I think there will be voter fraud on a level never before seen. If there's no exit polling, and at this point I don't believe any is planned, then we will have no independent way of assessing the vote counts.

because he will turn out more people to vote for him in the primary than the other Dem candidates. It sounds stupid but its true. if you can't even turn out DEMOCRATS to vote for you, how are you supposed to win an election? The folly of many political analyses is that people assume that partisans always turn out to vote in a general election. It is so EASY not to vote in this country: you're busy, you have no time, your vote doesnt matter (sic) etc. The specter of Ralph Nader does not help either. If you have that skill of being able to convince people to go to a booth and pull a lever, then you have everything you need.

I believe one thing that killed Gore was that people found the race boring, they thought Gore and Bush were boring, and maybe they were drawn to nader. they didn't feel motivated to perform the act of voting. If Dean can get and keep people excited, all the "swing voters" in the world won't help Bush.

Do not forget that 50 million people who could have voted in 2000 did not. Don't forget they may change their minds if someone can engage them. Dean will win because he IS engaging people never involved in pollitics, people who havent been part of the equation.

If John Kerry cannot get more than 13% of New Hampshire Democrats and Independents to support him, how is he supposed to be "electable"? Why will the ones who didnt support him make the effort to go to the polls for him on Nov 2nd?

35. Yes, he will win because
he will get more votes.

No, I'm not certain that he will win, how could I be? But am I confident? You bet! I've seen this campaign achieve EVERY goal it sets out to, because of smart campaigning and the incredible efforts of the grassroots supporters. If we are asked to give money, we give. If we are asked to go to Iowa, we go. Call it brainwashed, I call it committed.

I know Bush has talked about creating (um, buying) his own giant grassroots campaign, but I don't think they can match us. He certainly has his fervent supporters, but they have surely dwindled in the face of job losses, not to mention the senseless loss of hundreds of Americans in Iraq.

I just don't think any other candidate can generate the HUGE effort it's going to take to win this election. It's going to take feet on the street every day until election day; it's going to take media savvy; it's going to take MONEY. Dean has proven that he can bring all of those things to his campaign.
