WASHINGTON -- Rep. Robert Matsui, chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, on Wednesday laid out the Democrats' strategy to regain control of the House and said there is some hope of them retaking the 3rd District seat now held by Sacramento Republican Doug Ose.
"The only seat in California I see in play is the 3rd District," said Matsui, D-Sacramento.
Conservative Democrat Gabe Castillo of Carmichael and former Folsom Mayor Robert Holderness have filed for the Democratic primary on March 2.
...
But Matsui did not put the 3rd District race among the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee's high-tier contests around the country where party leaders think they have the best chance of picking up Republican seats.
Democrats need to gain 12 seats in November if they are to retake control of the House. Matsui highlighted 15 contests in 11 states where the committee thought it had the best chance of capturing Republican-held seats because of high Democratic registrations or other circumstances.
