Seeking other opinions of Nader interview on Daily Show from last night |
|
In case you missed it, there's a repeat of it tonight at 7:00pm Eastern.
I've seen it a few times now, and I couldn't get a read on the audience. They didn't seem to be 100% in his court, but I was surprised they applauded what he had to say as much as they did.
IMHO, he did a lot of talking over Stephen Colbert (filling in for Jon Stewart b/c of new baby) and there were some attempts at humor. Of course Colbert got the audience going with more humor of his own. For those who didn't see it, sorry but I can't really describe the interview - it was kind of surreal.
The main impression I got is that I think Ralph has gotten some coaching from some of his new Republican friends/supporters.
Anyone else have impressions of the interview?

1. I got the impression that the audience |
|
was coached, vetted, and (obviously) prodded during the program.
Nader seemed stressed, anxious, and pathetic.

2. yeah i thought nader wasn't so hot |
|
but he reaLLy went downhiLL when he started trying to be funny. he was so horribLy unfunny that i'm not going to vote for him.
my favorite part of the interview: when the audience appLauded nader's takedown of the DNC and RNC, raLph pointed to the audience with a "see?" kind of attitude to steve. steve then turned to the audience and said, "who wants cooL ranch doritos!?" and the crowd cheered wiLdLy and Louder.

d indeed loudly applaud a few points: big business bad, two parties bad etc. The "Freebird" and "Stairway to Heaven" of the left.
I thought Ralph came off kinda creepy - like your odd uncle-the retired professor-who hardly ever leaves his dark, cluttered, stinky house.
He also had this weird semi-crazy smirky thing going that reminded me a little bit of Ann Coulter's TV demeanor.
I can't get past the notion that - if Ralph were really still sincere-he'd have spent the last 3 1/2 years campaigning like crazy to get Greens on city councils, school boards, state lege and so on. like the way Rove and company did it. Ralph should be building and expanding his message from the ground up.
Seems to me that he just wants the big prize now.

6. No cable for 3 weeks and I finally get to see the show and... |
|
Jon's not there. I don't think Jon would have let Ralphie off so easily. The guy has gone from anti-corporate crusader to corporate whore. Steve "Who is Mr. Goodwrench?" Colbert was just the wrong guy for the interview. In all he seemed completely oblivious to his effect on the campaign and how he's enabled Bush to screw America. The only thing that seems to matter is hearing the cheers. There is NO WAY an independent President can get a program through a gauntlet of ~534 pissed off partisans.

7. Nader got gigantic applause for saying ABB |
|
Colbert asked him if he thought Kerry was better than Bush, and Nader replied that ANYONE is better than Bush, and the crowd went wild. Probably the longest and hardest applause during the interview.
I actually thought it was a fun interview, better than I expected. I think that the crowd was applauding what he had to say, rather than applauding Nader himself. He also talked about why he thinks conservatives will either vote for him or stay home and not vote at all. I think he's kidding himself about getting any conservative votes himself, but I think he's correct in that Bush has alienated a lot of people who would normally vote solidly Republican.
