Nat'l Review's May and Wash Post's Schmidt lie about Willson -& media runs
with the lie. For example, http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A39834-2004Jul9.html Plame's Input Is Cited on Niger Mission - Report Disputes Wilson's Claims on Trip, Wife's Role By Susan Schmidt Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, July 10, 2004; Page A09 <snip> AND http://www.nationalreview.com/may/may200407121105.asp July 12, 2004, 11:05 a.m. Our Man in Niger - Exposed and discredited, Joe Wilson might consider going back. by Clifford D. May, who put out lies -
such as "Another former government official told Wilson that Iraq had tried to buy 400 tons of uranium in 1998. That's the same year that Saddam forced the weapons inspectors to leave Iraq. If someone were to try to connect those dots, what picture would emerge?"

and is debunked by Talking Points http://www.talkingpointsmemo.com/archives/week_2004_07_04.php#003143
which notes:

From the CIA memo October 6th, 2002: "more on why we recommend removing the sentence about procuring uranium oxide from Africa: Three points (1) The evidence is weak. One of the two mines cited by the source as the location of the uranium oxide is flooded. The other mine city by the source is under the control of the French authorities. (2) The procurement is not particularly significant to Iraq's nuclear ambitions because the Iraqis already have a large stock of uranium oxide in their inventory. And (3) we have shared points one and two with Congress, telling them that the Africa story is overblown and telling them this is one of the two issues where we differed with the British."

And as May/Schmidt say:"According to the former Niger mining minister, Wilson told his CIA contacts, Iraq tried to buy 400 tons of uranium in 1998." (the Wash Post article has been cleaned up at this point in time - but May's words are still "official media"), but
nothing in the committee report says the above -on page 44 there is a reference to Wilson reporting to the CIA that "an Iranian delegation was interested in purchasing 400 tons of yellowcake from Niger in 1998 no contract was ever signed with Iran."

An innocent Sue Schmidt/Cliff May "opps" - confusing Iran and Iraq - and the editor of the WashPo and the editor of the National Review, just did not see the point of having an editor proof/correct?

In any case the result is the "Goring" of the election in 2004 is now in high gear by our lying US Media

http://www.newsday.com/news/nationworld/nation/ny-usnige113888255jul11,0,3479294.story?coll=ny-nationalnews-headlines

IRAQ WEAPONS PROBE - Panel finds holes in envoy's report <snip>-

Wilson's claims - both about what he found in Niger and what the Bush administration did with the information - were undermined Friday in a bipartisan Senate Intelligence report.<snip>

Our National Media has folks like May and Steno Susan Schmidt of the WP, who appear to be hand-fed Republican Talking Points - and media critic Howie Kurtz says nothing about the lies?!

Or, if you prefer, not lies, just the "opps" of confusing Iraq and Iran. Perhaps the Wash Post is afraid of having GOP Steno's reviewed by an editor lest the Washington Post be exposed as "not balanced?

And Howie Kurtz just had the "got ya Mr. Moore" TV appearance where he reported he asked Moore to debate F911 and Moore had not responded as yet.

Howie is not having a good week. LOL :-)
