Air America Spreads Wings (Expansion/Malloy Info)

The liberal talk network Air America, heard locally on WLIB (1190 AM), is adding Mike Malloy, 10 p.m.-1 a.m. weeknights, starting Aug. 2.
Air America President Jon Sinton also says the network is adding another "major California affiliate" early next month, and "chances are very good" it will find affiliates soon in Los Angeles and Chicago.

Sinton says he thinks the flurry of stories about instability at the fledgling network "are pretty much behind us now. ... We're focused on making this work, and it's happening."

Simultaneously, he says, "Our product is improving. I'd be the first to admit some of what we did the first month was bad. But now we sound pretty good."

2. Malloy was always getting facts wrong on WLS

when he was there. I was always calling him up to correct him.

4. That's a load of hooey.

Malloy has always been scrupulous about sourcing everything he says and the volunteer "bureau chiefs" were always on the ball. I was a bureau chief when he was on LS, sourced a lot of the stories he used, and listened to the entire show every night. Malloy is very, very seldom incorrect on a factual issue.

5. Air America ain't going anywhere

I know the right wing really wanted it to fail. But for a start up venture to have had as much success as it's had with so many untested people at the helm, Air America has been a phenomenal success. They're already beating Bill O'Reilly in ratings. Granted that isn't a whole lot because O'Reilly always had low radio ratings, but Air America is only four months old. O'Reilly has been on for years. Sorry to break it to you Rush, Hannity, O'Lielly, and Weiner (Savage) but there's a new force in radio, and it ain't you!
