Discovery Wings to be renamed the MILITARY CHANNEL
We can't make this stuff up.
http://www.reuters.com/newsArticle.jhtml?type=televisionNews&storyID=6962087

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Discovery Wings Channel has been drafted. The six-year-old channel will be relaunched next month as the Military Channel, focusing on all aspects of the armed forces, military strategies and personnel throughout the ages.

"By covering all aspects of the military and the people who define it, we will extend the Discovery brand, create a service that appeals to our existing viewers and attract new viewers and sponsors," said Billy Campbell, president of Discovery Networks U.S., who called military-related issues "a topic of fascination and relevance in our world."

... Military Channel is scheduled to debut Jan. 10. Among the programs slated for the premiere is the two-hour special "Delta Company," which chronicles the route taken by the Delta Company's 1st Tank Battalion last year as it pushed toward Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

"Task Force Red Dog," also slated to bow Jan. 10, is an hourlong special that will tell the story of Marine Corps reservists who were called on to establish a base deep in the mountains of Afghanistan as the U.S. military launched its hunt for Osama bin Laden and Taliban leaders in late 2001.

1. Fox News Channel has some competition I see
I would be happy if the History Channel would farm off all their war and military documentaries to a separate channel. Maybe this will push them in that direction.

3. That's what I thought too
Unlike PBS which varies its historical documentaries, the History Channel is mostly war history.

If you flip through channels enough, you see the SAME shows over Discovery, TLC, History, etc... Even if the show does not match up with the channel name, there it is.

I guess this would be "optimizing corporate resourses" by sharing shows.

6. History Channel Should Follow Suit
and rename itself THE NAZI CHANNEL. That's all I see there.
