Is Cardinal Ruini (Vicar Of Rome) a media genius, or what? |
|
Historically, the Vicar of Rome walks out and announces the death of a Pope.
More recently, Vicars of Rome have made the announcement on Vatican TV & Radio.
Cardinal Ruini (who's a top contender for the papacy), however, has been on World TV all afternoon.
Cardinals aren't allowed to campaign or even discuss succession while the Pope is alive.
Ruini has managed to focus the world on John Paul's papacy, as well as cement his own name in the minds of everyone watching TV today.
I think he's a genius!

2. Ruini, Re, & Ratzinger (The 3 R's) are... |
|
the Pope's closest confidants.
All 3 are extremely conservative, and IMHO each has been trying to out-Catholic the other 2 for quite a while now.
Remember, this pope appointed all but 16 of the current 117 college of cardinals, and only those under the age of 80 (they can't be 81 when the conclave convenes) can vote for a new pope.
Hm.
When the pope dies, the Vicar of Rome's job goes away. I think Ruini is a genius!
