Current Sirius subscribers who are also AAR fans. Others please bypass. |
|
I have a few questions that hopefully someone out there might be able to answer.
Was there anything in print, at the time you signed up for Sirius, indicating that their deal with AAR was due to expire and be up for re-negotiation in May of 05?
Also, any disclaimer noting programing can change at any time at their discretion?
I didn't notice any such disclaimers, because I was anxious to get my Sirius all fired up so I could listen immediately.
Anyone have any thoughts about the validity of a class action suit?

I just emailed them about wanting AAR. I'll post if I hear back anything. I am a brand new subscriber (1 week now) and was disappointed that they didn't have it available.

8. they didn't want to pay the money AAR was asking |
|
so I wouldn't count on AAR coming back soon to Sirius. They indicate that 144 will eventually be progressive/liberal talk
Right now XM is the exclusive satellite provider, BUT, they do NOT play the continuous AAR schedule, and interrupt Randi Rhodes, Majority Report, and Mike Malloy, with Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes
The only way you will get live uninterrupted AAR today is if you local radio has it, or by streaming from the internet
If you are extremely disappointed with Sirius because you don't have AAR call they and ask for you money back, and sell your receiver on ebay, but do NOT think the XM is necessarily the answer to what you want, until they get a full uninterrupted schedule of AAR
Just my thoughts, nothing against either provider, each one definitely has their short comings and strengths which I will NOT go into

4. Programming changes all the time - there would be no case. |
|
It wouldn't happen because programming changes all the time - unless Sirius deliberately tailored their marketing and advertising around Air America Radio to get people to sign up, there is no case that could possibly be made.
If AAR was a premium channel and they pulled it after you paid for a subscription, then they'd have to refund your money but I wouldn't get to worked up over this.

5. Good point Todd B. Let me just say that in the 25 plus years I |
|
subscribed to cable TV, programs and channels have been added, but never dropped.
Satellite radio is a subscriber based, paid for medium and again what I am looking for is for any DU'er who subscribed to Sirius and is a sharp consumer who might know the answer to my questions.
Sirius clearly advertised AAR. When I looked at the program line up in the store between XM and Sirius, I selected Sirius based on theme carrying the complete AAR line up.
What I need to know is, was there anything in print to let the consumer know AAR on Sirius was temporary.
Thanks!

6. I believe that since you can end your subscription at any time... |
|
that's about all you can expect, although you might request some relief on the original sign up fee, if it has been really recent. There is still some good programming on Sirius, but I bit the bullet and went over to XM.

10. reason I stay with Sirius is |
|
they say 144 will eventually have liberal/progressive content so Sirius will have two liberal stations, while XM will only have one
Currently the complete AAR schedule during the week day is broken up with Ed Scultz and Alan Colmes, and I really don't like that
If they ever have an uninterrupted schedule of AAR, I will reconsider
The streaming of AAR is not bad, and they are getting in more local AM stations, so that is also an alternative

7. no there wasn't any guarentee on their programming content |
|
please keep in mind that XM has AAR programming because XM was willing to pay a good chunk of change for it
the problem that exists for us is that:
1. Sirius users lost AAR 2. XM has exclusive Satellite broadcast for AAR, BUT it is NOT complete, but delay broadcasts parts of Randi Rhodes, Majority Report, and all of Mike Malloy, with Ed Schultz and Alan Colmes. This is NOT good that it is a broken up schedule
Here are the potentials
Sirius indicates that 144 will be filled with new progressive liberal talk, but nothing substantial
XM indicates that they will broadcast the full uninterrupted schedule of AAR but nothing substantial
If either of these come true, Sirius would have two progressive stations, and XM 1 progressive station

I signed up with Sirius before AAR was on the air. Since I've had Sirius, there have been a number of programming changes. New channels are added every once in a while, and since they have limited bandwidth available, a few old channels have had to be cut. There has been more additions than subtractions, but fans of the channel that gets axed will always get upset. That's just the way it has been, and I don't think you can sue them for it. If you sign up for just one channel, you could get disappointed. I signed up for the wide variety of great programming. I would be willing to pay for Sirius just for the music, but I also listen to Sirius Left, PRI, NPR, BBC, WRN, OutQ, Wisdom, and the sports channels a lot. Losing AAR is a disappointment, but hopefully they'll replace it with new liberal programming before too long.
