Knowing how someone would think - Casey Sheehan vs Terri Schiavo
Earlier this year, Right-Wing pundits, politicians, and media whores professed that the parents of a woman with no cognition of the outside world know better than anyone about what she would want. The spin was that the Schindlers knew it all, and the doctors and the judges who saw all the medical evidence didn't know her condition as well as they did.

At that time, the pundits were pushing that the only people who could fully understand what Terry Schiavo would want were her parents. Not even her husband, who probably would have had that hard conversation with her more likely than her parents.

(For the record, the first person I had sign my organ donor card was my mother - both she and my wife acknowledge and respect my wishes - if there is no hope of recovery, I want the doctors to salvage whatever they can - scoop out all the saveable parts and burn the rest).

Fast forward to August.

Bill O'Reilly and Michelle Malkin (along with a bunch of other people in the Republican Right-Wing Smear Machine) decide that the only people who would have any idea of how Casey Sheehan would feel about questioning the "nobility" of his death are the Right-Wingers and George W. Bush.

Not his mother, who gave birth to him, who raised him, who begged him not to go, who fought back tears when he left, who communicated with him as often as she could while he was in theater, who had the agony of being told that she had outlived her son. The Right Wing pundits, George W. Bush, and the Republicans all know better than his own mother how he feels about her questioning the reasoning for his sacrifice.
