Local evening news coverage 9/9- on new projected body count
I am watching our local, 2-30minute segments. So far they have mentioned 4 time (twice each segment) the new projected body count.

They stated as 'good news' that officials are now expecting lower deaths than expected. But have yet to give a source, or how these projections have been arrived at. Just that 'good news' factoid.

Anyone else hearing this on their local news programs? are they including any story/facts behind it?

World news tonite (ABC) is now starting, and i'm going to see if they are as imformative with this detail.

1. I heard...
that the initial body collection teams found fewer than they were expecting. Since I have no clue what they were expecting...

That was the sense I got.

3. so, not really reliable evidence, no?
since you were just left with a feeling, rather than an idea how/what/why, etc?

just curious if this is a push coming from the WH to bloviate as simply.....'that's the facts, now move along, folks'.

8. again this evening i watched local national news coverage
this time an NBC evening news. Special edition with John (?) what's his name.

seeing the message: lower death toll than expected, yet without some facts to back it up. No mention of numbers. No mention of methods/reasons/etc of discovering, not, the bodies.

Last evening, i noticed this same 'meme' being projected, and wasn't sure how to express what i was seeing, since it's difficult to portray what you are 'not' seeing, hearing, as opposed to what you are. It was just the statement, 'lower than expected' with no reason other than that it was stated, there you have it.

The newsguy will state, 'and with more on the story, here's ______ with the story.' The story will portray some rescue, some evacuations, some NG soldiers poking through some houses, but nothing to back up finding less of the dead.

and the same tonite on NBC local, and national news.

I am without cable. I have always watched the local broadcast, and the national coverage for some info, and depend on the web and DU for the real news that never makes it to local tv. And there have been many many articles concerning projected numbers, and then during the last 2 days that the number has been reduced.

But i'm not seeing any evidence to support WHY there is a lesser number at all. Yes, i understand it is impossible to prove 'a negative' (and i do see it as a positive that there are fewer bodies), but i have an ill feeling that it is just a meme being projected, and therefore we will never, ever know the truth.

does anyone else watch non-cable news, and get the same feeling?
