1. You Betcha
Endless video footage and talking-head blather about jets landing (not even MJ's plane). OJ redux.

2. Don't you understand?
A celebrity charged with sexual contact with an underage boy is SOOOOOOO much more important than:

1) the failed global war against criminal terror thugs making believe they're pious Muslims

2) protesters in London (and Miami) telling BushCo that he is the most reviled president in most people's lifetimes

3) all that "good news" about assassinations and improvised explosives in Iraq

4) where's Osama? where's Saddam? for that matter, where's Cheney?

5) the sellout of the AARP to the GOP and the phony Medicare "reform" bill

6) more corporate welfare for polluters

Please, in the future, get your prioritie$ $traight...

3. Turn your TV off
What crap. I was watching Bernie Goldberg on "The Daily Show" the other night and he said something that struck me. "There is always a bias toward crap."
I dread this turning into OJ3. Faux is showing the cop cars taking MJ to the station. I'm having flashbacks. When the white Bronco started to meander through L.A. I turned off my TV because I could see where the whole thing was heading and it wildly surpassed my worst case scenario. I knew it was going to be OJ 24/7 but I didn't quite understand the full implications.
I wanted nothing to do at all with the whole circus. If something came on about OJ I turned the channel. I deliberately and resolutely cocconed myself. Yet somehow, I wound up knowing as much about those 2 trials as everyone else. That BS was shoved down my throat and I actively avoided the subject completely.
So, I'm turning off my TV and going to the bookstore.

4. Hell ... I can go one better ...
At the time I moved to one of the poorest countries in the world, Guinea (West Africa), where the BBC World Service was the only regular update I had on the rest of the world (Voice Of America sucks for news by the way ...). I returned to the states in the summer of 1996 (the trial ended in 1995), and I still knew as much about that god damn trial as Greta Van Susteren.

Coming from such a cash-poor country I couldn't fathom the resources this country spent on that circus.

5. The Perfect Storm of BS
God forbid it should happen but what if the Laci Peterson, Kobe Bryant and MJ are all going on at the same time? Even worse, what if they overlap each other and there is a non stop craptacular for the first half of '04? 81/2 months of specious legal arguments, heart rending testimony, slimy lawyers and talking heads blathering on and on about crap.
I was watching Faux and they did a shot of an airplane hanger (where nothing was happening) for 20 minutes.
Turn off the TV. It's not going to get much better

7. It's Like Penance
because every day I feel compelled to read the rag and peek at the nightly just to figure out what everyone else is being NOT told. I look for the holes and sigh alot. Most of all I am careful not to fall into the abyss and watch too much. The media is just a big dark hole.

Peace,
Teresa
