I have something of an idea when it comes to the media, to prevent it from becoming as defanged as it is now ever again. We need a federally-funded nationwide (actually, international) broadcast, cable, and satellite TV news station that always remains under the control of the opposition party. After every election, if the White House has switched parties, then the runner-up appoints a new staff to the news station, possibly called Opposing Views or Counterpoint or something catchy like that.
Yes, it would mean that when we have a President in the White House there'll be more baseless bashing like there was with Clinton, but... We can take it. It's what we have already, after all. It would just make sure that no matter WHO is in the White House, a check and balance exists in the media rather than simply in the governmental system. We might need it soon, because those checks and balances in the system itself are very quickly becoming blurred...

1. i am glad you are thinking about media, more people should |

i like your idea, it is a compromise both parties could live with. except the repub. party already has a vice grip on tv. they will not compromise. and the corporatist will fight like hell to keep us from using our air waves. but a good proposal none the less. thank you

I dunno...I am still wet behind the ears when it comes to politics (24 y/o). I only became interested when WTO went down in Seattle and I had to know what they were so angry about. My web-time before that was mainly spent on religious bords like Beliefnet.
So I am still a newbie, though well-informed. I recently started gtting into Noam Chomsky and Zinn, but when I post around the net that I am enthralled with Manufacturing Consent, which I only recently viewed, nobody offers any opinions or resposes to discuss. People don't care much about the media or younger voters, it seems.

3. It's a nice idea, but ... |

... it's dependent on a two-party system. It shuts out all other viewpoints. And it wouldn't quiet those who say the left has a stranglehold on media.
What's needed is far more constraints on the concentration of media ownership and air/print monopolies - then you'd get fairer broadcasting.
