CNN take on Reagan vs Bush |
|
I just saw a promo clip on CNN that poses the question "Can the Bush Administration live up to Reagan's Legacy? (not an exact quote but pretty close)
Here it is, just Wednesday, in the week-long Reagan-fest and now CNN is starting to make the (assumed) negative comparison between Bush and Reagan. This deification of Reagan has the distinct possibility of blowing up in Dubya's face. It's unavoidable even if you compare just the communications ability of Reagan vs Bush and gets worse if you delve deeper into their respective characters and policies.
This could be good.

1. The TRULY SAD thing is they can't... |
|
When you can't live up to the most corrupt administration (even more than Nixon's IMHO) in the last 50 years, it's pretty bloody sad...

2. Why would the whore media change its tack on Dubya now? |
|
I'd assume (and I know assume is a loaded word) that comparison's of the Great(mis-)Communicator and Dim Son will be favorable.

Neither of them could even carry Clinton's jock let alone fit into it.

4. What's great about this whole thing... |

is that the Bushies were hoping to exploit Reagan's death and expected a "bounce" in the polls as people got all sentimental about Reagan and would naturally feel better about Bush. It seems to have had the opposite effect. Two possible reasons? 1) people are getting "Reagan death fatigue" from all the non-stop coverage of the ceremonies, over-glorification, etc. ; and 2) This is giving people a chance to compare the two straight up, and even hardcore Republicans have to admit to themselves that Bush Jr. doesn't even come close in terms of leadership. I was no fan of Reagan, but how can anyone in their right mind compare Dubya favorably to Reagan if you listen to even one speech by each one? Reagan had that comforting tone in his speech that seemed to draw people in (Clinton had a similar talent). Bush's voice and general tone makes peoples' skin crawl.
