Why are we giving $10 BILLION in assistance to.......... |
|
tobacco farmers? I understand the need to help farmers who grow FOOD. They have bad seasons, terrible weather and geopolitical pressures. We are passing legislation around the country outlawing public smoking, here in CO we have a prop for a tax raise of 66cents on each pack to help with healthcare. $10billion assistance is part of the Bushit tax package just passed for $136 BILLION
BTW...I smoke! Sorry, no link. It is in my SUNDAY paper.

I can tell you it's because the demand for their product is decreasing. Also, if they are to be encouraged to grow other crops that are not as lucrative, they are looking for subsidies to close the gap.

2. This is to transistion them out of the smokes growing business |
|
By taking the cash they will give up their allotments to grow tabacco. I think this bill was developed with bi-party support as many tobaccy farmers are very small enterprises and will be lsot without the crop. This gives them a chance to find alternatives crops or move into another line of work.
