After six very high-profile years, Carly Fiorina is out at Hewlett-Packard. Fiorina stepped down as chairman and CEO, effective immediately, the company said Wednesday
morning. CFO Robert Wayman was named interim CEO and director Patricia Dunn was tapped as non-executive chairman. In a statement, the board said it will begin a search for a full-time CEO immediately.
"While I regret the board and I have differences about how to execute HP's strategy, I respect their decision," Fiorina said in the same statement. "HP is a great company, and I wish all the people of HP much success in the future."
Fiorina, who engineered HP's controversial and contentious merger with Compaq Computer, was an extremely high-profile executive who's been under fire for the past year.
"Carly Fiorina came to HP to revitalise and reinvigorate the company," Dunn said in the company statement. "She had a strategic vision and put in place a plan that has given HP the capabilities to compete and win. We thank Carly for her significant leadership over the past six years as we look forward to accelerating execution of the company's strategy."
