Why do conservatives expect everything for nothing? |
|
I was watching a C-Span program open to callers. One line was open for callers satisfied with the current course of the space program..another was open for critics of the space program. The irony was that most of the callers satisfied with the space program were conservatives who wanted even more to be spent on the program, those calling in to criticize the program were liberals wanting more to be spent on Earthly needs or wanting changes in the space program's objectives.
The irony is that none of those wanting more money for the space program, conservative or liberal, embraced paying higher taxes or less spending on military deployments!
I think everyone is in favor of a better space program..but how far does this commitment really go? Will retirees give up Social Security or Medicare benefits for increased NASA funding, will we reduce the benefits and pay of our soldiers in Iraq, will we reduce federal funding on education even more, and how much more in federal income taxes will we each pay..so this spending does not increase our national debt?
The more we allow the national debt to increase, the less tax money shall be available to spend for such things in the future!

1. The main problem with the space program: |
|
Waste.
They pay too many too much for too little.
Nepotism is rampant, anything not nailed down is ripped off, and the most incompetent are put in management positions. Typical government program.

2. The secret's out, it's NOT the money |
|
Republicans don't care about how much money they spend, you can tell by the fact that, They Spend So Damn Much Money.
It's, 'somebody's gettin' somethin' for nothin' AND using that to pit the people against each other while the corporate elites use the government to gain more and more power.

3. there are no such 'things' as 'conservatives' any more... |
|
they've evolved in spite of their visceral contempt for evolution into: 'tax everybody else but me & mine & drain the american middle class while passing the check for all my waste & prideful conceit to their grand children-tives'

4. I am in favor of a worse space program. |
|
The 'manned' part of the space program should be canceled. Low earth orbit, including or not - going to the moon, is worthless.\
Everyone knows stuff costs money. Money spent on manned spaceflight is waste.

10. The old fraud & waste refrain |
|
Americans always fall back on the lame "if the government would cut fraud (welfare cheaters) and waste (social programs) then we could have everything we want and lower taxes too"!
Never mind the breaks to the rich and corporations.
My favorite anti-tax, welfare "conservative" story goes like this: a rather Republican, anti-tax, welfare cheaters, etc. coworker who made hundreds of thousands in commissions was busy hiding his money so when his kids were old enough for college they could get money.
This guy saw nothing hypocritical or wrong about doing this.
Simply f..ing amazing isn't it?
