SF School Employees Threaten to Strike (CA)

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) -- Members of the San Francisco Unified School District are threatening to go on strike next month if a contract offer is not made.

The last contract between the school district and the 1,200 members of the SEIU Local 790, which includes support staff, custodians, library aides and cafeteria staff, expired on June 30, according to David Canham, spokesman for the union. <snip>

The workers want a raise, an early retirement plan and a promise that none of them be furloughed over the next two years, Canham said.

"Our members haven't had a raise in three years and our contracts are two-year contracts. That would mean five years without a salary increase," Canham said. <snip>
