Airbus, Boeing vie for Japan Airlines order worth billions
Airbus SAS and Boeing Co are competing for a 15-plane order from Japan Airlines System Corp, the world's second-largest carrier, according to a copy of the invitation to bid shown to Bloomberg News. The sale may be worth about US$1.7 billion based on current listed prices.

Japan Airlines plans to take delivery of three aircraft a year for five years starting in 2008 with options for a further 10 planes, the letter said.

Japan Airlines spokesman Geoffrey Tudor said the company will "eventually" need to replace its Boeing 767s and Airbus A300s, which have as many as 250 seats. He declined to comment on the bidding.
