The Bush Administration proposes to modernize and make Medicare more efficient by requiring traditional Medicare to compete directly with new private insurance plans.
What the Administration is not saying is that the cost savings of the proposed new senior-care health plan is directly related to the difficulty our senior citizens will experience in obtaining health services from private insurance plans.
I believe, and nothing I have read or heard has dissuaded me otherwise, that pushing our senior citizens out of the traditional Medicare system and into private insurance health-care plans will ultimately cause untold numbers of senior citizens to suffer needlessly.
What bothers me the most about this issue is that many people receiving Medicare, and who will be severely impacted by Medicare privatization, are mothers who gave up their sons and daughters to serve and to die for our country.
