We are fucked and I wish I'd bought MORE PMs.
I left some money in some energy stocks.
I wish I'd cashed it all out for safe haven now...
Just sayin'
What the HELL are we going to do if they steal
this election, on top of everything else?
Sorry to ramble, but I'm beyond despair.

1. This one will NOT be stolen!
Obama is not the kind to let this happen.

And the numbers of folks voting will be just overwhelming!

The country is overwhelmingly ready for a new direction, a new change...

Despair not!

We are going to be OK...

And I hope you are right.
I don't think so though.
I think they are going to steal it again.

4. Hang onto those energy stocks. They will recover in due course.
They won't steal this one. And if they try, the cities will erupt. They know they will have an out-and-out revolution on their hands if they try.

Too many have waited too long for their day in the sun. There won't be any "yes, massah; no, massah; I'll just keep quiet as long as you feed me and don't beat me, massah" from blacks OR whites or ANY of the Little People. The Right will reap the whirlwind.

I think we have them running scared, and that is just fine with me.

10. Energy is gonna continue to be a moneymaker. The human race has far
too great a need for it to be a loser anytime soon. All stocks are down now. Wait it out.

I'm just as upset as you are about the economy. I actually woke up in the middle of the
night, having a real panic attack. Not pretty.

So, I do understand.

However, there is no way that they can steal it. The disparity between the two candidates is
just too great. They know it. They're own people aren't even fighting it. David Gergen,
George Will, and even Fox News is admitting the reality. And please...this is Princess Panic
Attack talking, so if I'm confident, you should be. :)

Republicans can only effectively steal the election, if it's a close election. Obama is now
ahead by about 9 points in most polls. Plus, the electoral map is even better for Obama.
John King, tonight, said that "Bill Clinton was the last Democrat to in the Presidency, but
he never saw an electoral map that looked like this three weeks before the election."

We're talking...landslide. 5-6 points ahead in the polls--is a landslide. 9-11 points
is a complete annihilation.

We've still got 3 weeks and momentum is on Obama's side. He'll run his campaign with a steady hand.
He's got it covered. Obama survived Hillary Clinton, and she's ten times tougher than McCain.

Now, the economy--that's another thing. Sorry, I can't calm you down about that. What can help, is
if you prepare. I'm sorry about those energy stocks. We made some similar decisions, so now
we're scrambling to get some cash in the house. I've made preparedness a project...and it is therapeutic.

You take it easy there, ok. :)

9. Hang on to the energy stocks and ride it out--energy will rise again if nothing else!
With the amount of voters this time--I just feel like this election will not be stolen.

From what I've read in the past 4 years, PMs won't even be safe if things really go down. You have to have them in your physical hands at the very most.

I wished I would've bought some PMs in the last 4 years, too. I should've followed my hunches after reading a bunch but I really didn't have the money to invest anyway. I would be a rich girl by now if I would've invested and had the money at the time. My gut was right. I will follow it from now on if I'm capable.

Don't freak out yet. We can only do what we can where we're at. We can't look back now.

The best actions you can take now is to learn how to be sustainably independent with skills and to gather physical, tangible assets.

11. I kept thinking that gold would be...
Edited on Thu Oct-16-08 12:40 AM by TwoSparkles
...a good investment. I think most of us intuitively understood that there would be
some disaster in our future. How could we not with 8 years of disastrous neocon rule?

Like you, I wish I would have listened to my intuition. As you said, we can't look back.
We can only prepare.

If we don't have one now, on DU (and I'm sorry if I missed it), we should have a "preparing
for hard economic times" group--where we can share our ideas, get opinions and support each
other. Who knows, maybe we could trade/barter in the future.

I would be very interested in hearing what others are doing and exactly how bad you think
the economy will get--and when the very difficult times will begin.

I am stockpiling essentials. We are also hoarding cash at home. We kept our 401k in the stock
market, because we have 20 years before we cash out. We have built up an emergency fund that could get
us through 6 months--if we had no income. My stockpile of food and non-food essentials could sustain
our family of four for 3 months. Who knows if this will help...but we are trying to prepare for
any eventuality.

12. PM's have had a hell of a ride of late.
Suze Orman says to always trust your intuition. She called this situation back in March/April.

Good idea about starting up a support thread for 'hard economic times'

16. Orman until very recently
advised investors "not to sell" their stocks. Her reasoning being, if you have ten to twenty years
until retirement you haven't created a paper loss.

We are living in unprecedented economic times and can't afford to rely on the advice of the typical
Investment gurus, who are invested in the market and trying to protect their own portfolios.

My biggest concern at this time is the stability of the dollar. Will the petro dolar revert to Euros?
That's when I'm really going to start to sweat.

13. Randi Rhodes says it all gets better 1/20/09, pretty quickly.
She doesn't blow smoke -- she's laid out the case for a positive outcome under new leadership, in detail, and I think she's right.

She's rarely wrong.

15. When they talk about the bradley effect I wonder if they are setting
the stage for the polls and the results to be different too - obama is such a centrist and they don't seem to understand that yet - he is not a liberal of the left
