Hedge Fund Paid Summers $5.2 Million in Past Year

WASHINGTON -- Top White House economic adviser Lawrence Summers received about $5.2 million over the past year in compensation from hedge fund D.E. Shaw, and also received hundreds of thousands of dollars in speaking fees from major financial institutions.

~SNIP~

The disclosure -- in a financial report that is required for federal office holders -- comes as Mr. Summers is involved in shaping the Obama administration's policy decisions on the financial meltdown as well as the broader recession. Among the many decisions the economic team has wrestled with has been whether to step up regulation of hedge funds, one of the most contentious subjects during a summit of world leaders this week. European nations pushed for tougher rules, while the Obama administration preferred a less stringent approach.

That if this were an "R" administration then this info would make the top of the DU's "Greatest Page".

6. True. and I think treating politics like a team sport with citizen-fans is doing tremendous damage
to us and is standing in the way of achieving a just government.

5. Why regulate? The markets have spoken and the correction has been made, Yes?

Why all the fuss? The Landstrad is intact. No one has been exiled to Dune.

The only thing needing to be done at this point is to stabilize the myths.

And to that end the MSM pundits and the IHS liars who dominate the pulpits still fill out deposit slips and tell the poor that their personal treasure is assured and that mansions await them if they will just work themselves to death in service of THE SYSTEM.

8. Yes, sarcasm, except that
it seems that folks more credible than me are saying that reinforcement of the dominant myth is actually being undertaken by the Fed and the Treasury.

It just unconscionable too me that Obama would back down from Germany and France's requests for tighter hedge fund regs.
