Six Utah coal miners trapped after earthquake
This story is not getting much coverage by the MSM. But it's just a coal mine. They won't pick it up unless the miners are in danger of dying or they find some uranium.

Six Utah coal miners trapped after earthquake

SALT LAKE CITY (Reuters) - A coal mine collapsed in central Utah, trapping six miners, after a 4.0 magnitude earthquake early on Monday, officials said.

"Our understanding is that six miners were unaccounted for," said Mary Wilson, a spokeswoman for the Utah office of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. "Two mine rescue teams are on site."

The incident was reported to the Emery County Sheriff's Office at 3:50 a.m./0950 GMT, said Sgt. Bliss Mead, a spokesman. Emergency crews arrived at the scene at about 4:00 a.m./1000 GMT, the mayor of nearby Huntington, Utah, told Fox News.

The Genwal mine is about 120 miles south of Salt Lake City in a remote part of the western U.S. state known for mining. It is operated by Utah American Energy, Wilson said.

In January 2006, 12 miners were killed in an explosion at International Coal Group's Sago mine in West Virginia. In response, Congress passed the Mine Improvement and New Emergency Response Act, which President George W. Bush signed into law last year.

1. There was no earthquake.
From the Associated Press...

6 Trapped in Utah Coal Mine Cave-In

that a minor earthquake had caused the cave-in. Scientists
later realized the collapse at the Genwal mine had caused
the disturbance.

2. Initially, an earthquake was thought to have caused the collapse
It took several hours to determine that the earthquake WAS the collapse.
