Getting way too many Christmas catalogs in the mail?
There is something you can do about it. If you are getting tons of Christmas catalogs you don't want and won't use, including those sent to prior occupants of the house, go here:

www.catalogchoice.org

YOu can register which catalogs you no longer want to get, and they will contact them and ask that you be taken off their mailing lists. Good for the trees, good for the environment, and good for that junk mail stack. It's good to have the catalog in hand, because having the customer number helps. And you can put down the exact name used on the mailing list.

1. And I can't afford to buy anything
displayed in them. I never dreamed I would see L.L. Bean cheaper than Land's end and still can't afford it.

3. I just email the retailers
Every retailer has complied with my request. They require an email address but I give them a Yahoo addy and mark their messages as spam.

I don't know what information the customer code contains so I don't like sharing it with third parties.

4. I have a decision to make. Keep catalogs or keep wife.

5. Already did that
I've opted out of more than a dozen catalogs so far.

6. Thanks so much for this!
I was just telling my husband that it's driving me nuts the number of catalogs we get. I do a lot of shopping/browsing online and then I get catalogs up the wazoo!! I remembered hearing about a service like this before (I think it was here on DU) but wasn't sure how to find it again.

I just signed up and unsubscribed from a bunch of catalogs. I'll have more to add as I get more in the mail. Some companies must spend fortunes on catalogs and mailing because I can get multiple catalogs from the same company in just a week! JCPenney is notorious for that, as are some of the other clothing companies.

Thanks again!!

9. you're welcome
I just heard it from my daughter, who heard about it from a friend, and thought I'd pass it along to DU. :)

7. I don't know about catalogues
but every piece of unsolicited junk mail that arrives in my box goes back out the next day. I just open them up, take out the return postage-paid envelope, cram everything back inside it, and mail it back. If you feel paranoid about it, just tear off the original address info. If you're feeling really pissy about it, get a big black Sharpie and write REMOVE FROM MAILING LIST on it.
