Where is the leadership on global warming?

The UN Climate Panel has released its "final warning to humanity" on climate change. It's truly scary. They have moved up as more likely some of their worst-case scenarios and the timing of it all. Things like the melting of the ice sheets of Greenland and western Antarctica that could raise sea levels by 40 feet, more powerful hurricanes (think Katrinas), and the spread of drought and disease.

Here's the really depressing part. They say we need a plan in place by 2009 to turn around the worst of it and live with the damage we have already caused, and they are calling on the US to step up to the plate and deliver.

Do you think we have the leadership in place to do this? Al Gore could have pulled it off, but it looks like he isn't running. What congressman comes to mind as capable of delivering? Goose egg?

I started working on global warming in 1993, and I was called a kook back then. Big oil and their allies in Congress and the media won the day and nothing really has been done at all.
