Continental Airlines is cutting back the number of flights to Erie International Airport. But unlike the Delta Air Lines and US Airways flights that Erie has lost or is losing, local airport officials say they are sure these flights are coming back -- probably in February.
Continental currently runs four round-trip flights between Erie and Cleveland six days a week and two flights on Saturdays -- all with 37-passenger Dash 8 turboprops.
For the first two weeks of December and all of January, that is to be cut back to three flights a day on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays; and two flights a day on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. For the Christmas travel period, the plan is to have three flights a day, with two on Saturday.
"This was a surprise to us," airport Executive Director Kelly Fredericks said. "We understand this is temporary, but at the same time, we are never pleased to see a reduction in capacity."
