Mega-PV Project Announced In Connecticut

Gloria Spire Solar LLC, the Bedford, Mass.-based joint venture company formed by Spire Corp. and Gloria Solar Co. Ltd., announced that it has won a contract to design and install a 308 kW photovoltaic (PV) solar electric system at The Lee Company's manufacturing facility in Westbrook, Conn.

The installation, which is being billed as the largest solar electric system for a manufacturing company in Connecticut, will consist of 1,760 PV panels on a 29,000 square-foot roof. According to Gloria Spire Solar, the new system will generate 17% of the manufacturing facility's power consumption, which is also the power usage equivalent of 34 homes for one full year.

The Lee Company solar energy project was made possible, in part, by a $1.2 million grant from the quasi-public agency Connecticut Innovations, which will defray approximately half of the PV system's cost.
