of McMansions. Because, we've gone and built them. They are now an ecological niche waiting to be filled. Suburbia will not exactly be "abandoned," so much as re-zoned. We'll have suburban houses turning into de-facto apartments, and others turning into de-facto businesses, offices, etc. I expect that first, existing zoning laws will simply be ignored, and maybe later they'll be officially updated. Or, maybe a bribery sub-economy will evolve, where people pay off the local officials to ignore the zoning laws for them.
