June 5, 2008

WARSAW, Poland -- Mine company officials say a methane gas explosion at a Polish coal mine has killed four miners and injured at least 19 others.

Borynia mine spokeswoman Agnieszka Warzycka says the blast occurred in a shaft about 2,950 feet underground near the town of Jastrzebie Zdroj.

She said Thursday that five of the injured are in serious condition.

...

This past Christmas, I discovered, via internet feed, Polish Christmas carols -- modern and traditional songs, some of which have never been heard in the West. I also discovered a number of pop groups -- Brathanki, Czerwone Gitary, Quligowscy -- that are worth tracking down if you're a music fanatic.

So, a "Godspeed!" to the lost miners of the Borynia mine, and do widzenia.

I invite other members of this forum to also post news about the growing blood sacrifice to appease King Coal. In spite of some of the divisions of opinion here, I believe I'm justified when I say that nobody wants coal to have much of a future.

1. Being a coal miner is extremely dangerous.
My thoughts always go to the family and friends of the deceased and injured in these situations. I can't even imagine being a coal miner and having to go back to work after something like this - even though they are well aware of the risks involved, many have little to no choice but to work in the coal mines.

Last weekend I watched an interesting episode of 30 Days where Morgan Spurlock becomes a coal miner for a month. Very educational. It can be seen at the following link:
