Calls and Faxes Needed to Capitol Hill
(emails aren't as quickly read and action is sched. for nov 15)
While this had 95-1 public outcry (to stop this bill from becoming law) loggers near my favorite forest are going to push it through without any public support. This is a National issue. Do write!
Senator Gordon Smith (R-OR) has stated that he intends to attach a rider to the omnibus bill, which will legislate
the largest timber sale in modern history by overriding environmental laws and prohibiting judicial review for the Biscuit post-fire logging project on the Siskiyou National Forest in Southern Oregon. Ancient forest stands and roadless areas will be sacrificed as the agency intends to log 370 million board feet, enough to fill 74,000 log trucks on almost 20,000 acres -- 30 square miles. If Senator Smith gets his way citizens will not be allowed to challenge any of the Biscuit post-fire logging activity in the courts, even if the activities violate current environmental laws. For the rest of this week and next, we need to get as many calls and faxes into Members of Congress' offices to stop Senator Smith.
