GM's Dave Barthmuss agrees to "free" reconstructed EV1
Edited on Thu Oct-09-08 12:39 PM by wtmusic
Engineers at Western Washington University have taken an EV1 carcass donated by GM to the university and re-animated it. The project caught GM's attention big-time when this video appeared on YouTube of the car being driven to a Seattle environmental event last December:

EV1 lives again! The EV1 rides out of EV heaven to vex GM

According to the terms of GM's donation contract with WWU, "the vehicle is not to be licensed, titled or operated on any public or private road or highway". WWU promptly got a phone call from GM reminding them of the terms of their contract.

EV1 activist Doug Korthof was able to pin down GM spokesman Dave Barthmuss at SoCal's AltTransportation Expo two weeks ago, and got him to promise that he would "find a way" to get WWU's EV1 on the street:

GM pathetic ALTCAR expo: but agrees to free WWU EV1

Given GM's anal attempts to shove the EV1 down the memory hole, I'm not holding my breath.

3. You know, I would love to be able to ask Dave Barthmuss
WHY that clause is in the contract. Liability won't wash; they could as easily have inserted a liability waiver.

2. Sounds like a WC Fields moment to say--'Oh, the old
"the vehicle is not to be licensed, titled or operated on any public or private road or highway" ploy, you say, eh?' Now they'll have to get it crushed. GM sucks. Free EV1, Free EV1........... GM sucks exhaust pipes, can't have no effin' EVs.

Good luck WWU.
