TV weathermen say human-caused global warming is hogwash
Edited on Wed Dec-03-08 11:18 AM by Algorem
Cleveland-area TV meteorologists disagree with prevailing attitude about climate change

http://blog.cleveland.com/metro/2008/12/clevelandarea_tv_meteorologist.html

..."This cry that 'We're all going to die' is an overreaction and just not good science," said Andre Bernier, a meteorologist at WJW Channel 8. "I don't think I personally know any meteorologists -- here in Cleveland or anywhere else I've worked -- who agree with the hype over human-induced warming."...

"This is nationwide," said Stu Ostro, meteorologist and director of weather communications for the Weather Channel in Atlanta.

AMS chief Seitter agreed: "I've seen the trend, too," he said. "But I still don't understand why there would be more skepticism among the TV meteorologists than in the field overall -- but there is."

The most notable example of dissent among meteorologists has been the Weather Channel's founder, John Coleman, now a TV forecaster in San Diego....

9. yes, I think that's pretty typical
Just like with other branches of science, if there's a disagreement between active researchers and people who passed a few classes in the field, we should listen to the active researchers.

19. Yes, that seems to be the major qualification(s)
Although one local channel here does have a hot guy who fills in for the blond with the "recomendations" occasionally.

But sexism is dead, ok?

20. Yeah, we have lots of skimpily dressed weather bimbos in Los Angeles.
And we have some weather dudes who like to stand with their legs spread and pelvis thrust forward, too.

Pretty disgusting. The fake boobs are especially laughable. They all look like they've got balloons stuck on their chests.

TV meteorologists are not remotely comparable to PhD climatologists. And Accuweather is a RW organization.

23. none. I worked at a small tv station years ago...
the "weather forecaster" would read the weather update off the wire, memorize it and then regurgitate it on air. he was looked upon as being one of the better weather parrots out there.

so sad.

21. Ohhh, an evangelical minister
Those are never dishonest or deluded, are they? :sarcasm:

Mind you... a Christian meteorologist who named his son Noah? If he starts buying lots of wood, watch out.

14. A nice example of Denial Propaganda
This is simply a string of distortions. The actual article provides a little more balance, but the idea that a TV weatherman would have any expertise in climate science is laughable.

Your excerpt mentions Stu Ostro and seems to imply that he is one of "many" TV weathermen who disagree with the current science. That would be, um, "inaccurate". Stu Ostro writes on the Weather Channel blog from time to time, and he is pretty sick of "denial trolls":

http://climate.weather.com/blogs/9_16507.html

John Coleman may have founded the Weather Channel, but his views are so extreme and non-reality based, that they cut all ties to him long ago:

http://thinkprogress.org/2007/11/08/coleman-weather/

Denialprop like this is so childlike that it is easy to debunk.

I wonder if Greg *R* Forbes was paid for the article? Was it a deliberate attempt to create the confusion that it did?

22. more right-wing propaganda...
I love it when these self appointed weather reporters or so-called climate scientists out themselves as right-wing hacks by trying to dispute global warming. Anybody that denies the accepted facts of global warming ought to lose whatever license they have to talk about weather or perform their witch-doctor version of climate science. Any findings they have to support their outlandish claims are automatically suspect because of their position on the issue and should be dismissed outright.

We will never move forward in addressing climate change if these secret right wing operatives are allowed to spread doubt about what we all know in our hearts to be true.
