Ontario signs $1.3B in clean energy deals

TORONTO — SkyPower Corp. says it has signed a 20-year agreement to supply wind-generated electricity to the the Ontario Power Authority, one of several projects that are part of the provincial government's effort to tap more renewable sources of energy.

The company's proposed 64.5-megawatt Byran wind project in scenic Prince Edward County, on the north shore of Lake Ontario near Belleville, Ont., is one of six projects that got the nod from the McGuinty government on Friday.

Three of the projects are in Chatham-Kent in southwestern Ontario and there are also projects in Essex and Thunder Bay, Ont.

The Essex development in Kingsville, Ont., called the Gosfield Wind Project, is owned by Brookfield Renewable Power Inc. and will produce enough electricity to power 15,000 homes a year.
