Looking for a job? Follow in Abbie's footsteps
Edited on Wed Jan-05-05 06:56 PM by LosinIt
Abbie Hoffman was six years underground. Facing 15 years to life for arranging the sale of three pounds of cocaine to undercover cops, he skipped bail and went underground. He settled in Fineview, New York, on the St. Lawrence River, and in 1976 he took the name Barry Freed, becoming the respected leader of the Save the River movement, which successfully opposed a dredging project. His environmental work was cited by 400 luminaries who wrote on his behalf when he surfaced in 1980, and he served only 11 months in prison.

Here is a job posting for a full time assistant director of the Save the River movement:
http://www.newzjunky.com/record/0103savetheriver.htm

"OVERVIEW: Save The River is a 27 year-old non-profit membership organization dedicated to protecting the Thousand Islands region of the St. Lawrence River through advocacy, education and research. The organization is involved in many program areas, including improving the river's water quality, protecting its native wildlife, educating communities up and down the river about the unique and wonderful resource values of the St. Lawrence, and protecting the River from destructive development projects, particularly Seaway expansion by the Army Corps of Engineers.

Save The River is seeking an individual with both a strong commitment to its mission of environmental protection and highly relevant experience for a river protection organization. The Assistant Director has major programmatic responsibilities. He/she does extensive community outreach, working with volunteers in a variety of programs to promote river protection. S/he plans and produces events, writes and produces materials about river issues, informs membership of recent developments through our newsletter, and assists the executive director to develop and evaluate new and on-going programs."

This job is based in Clayton, NY in the heart of the beautiful 1000 Islands region of NY. You'll never get rich, but you will have a full, purposefull life.

2. That's true, but it is a good opportunity to have a worthwhile job
and it's a beautiful place to live. The cost of living is not too bad either.
