Roof Leaks, Dead Mice, Rodent Droppings Found Throughout TX Peanut Plant - Reuters
CHICAGO, March 3 (Reuters) - Dead mice and rodent droppings were found throughout a Texas plant run by a company whose peanut products caused one of the biggest food recalls in U.S. history, food inspectors reported on Tuesday.

U.S. Food and Drug Administration inspectors who for the first time visited the Plainview, Texas, food processing plant run by Peanut Corporation of America were clearly disgusted by what they found last month. "Effective measures are not being taken to exclude pests from the processing areas and protect against the contamination of food on the premises by pests," the report reads.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says 677 people in 45 states have been sickened in the outbreak of salmonella food poisoning, which is still going on, and which has been traced to two of the company's plants in Georgia and Texas.

So far, more than 2,833 products have been pulled from store shelves since mid-January, although not brand names of peanut butter, which are not affected.

5. do you mean for this company or...
do you mean for the food industry as a whole???

Just a quick note maybe of interest. My wife happens to work for a nut company (cashews, almonds peanuts, etc.)
....unrelated to this event or company. The FDA has been through their production and storage facility, and they are waiting on test results any time now. Independent tests show no problem, but of course FDA has final say.
Their sales were down 75% from projections for the month of February.....this event is having impacts on the industry no one is talking about.....

But....my point was the FDA did intervene.....maybe just trying to save face...I don't know.

2. This is CRIMINAL. Arrest warrants need to be issued to the owner,
plant supervisors, and anyone else who was responsible for the safety of the food product in that plant.

And thanks should go to the Bush Administration and Republicans, who RAPED the FDA budget so that they had to lay off inspectors, and couldn't check things as they should. Bush should be arrested as well, as he FAILED to uphold his oath of office.
