BETHANY BEACH — A project that could involve the town in the Bluewater Wind offshore wind farm project has been proposed, and officials and residents are looking at possible plans with careful eyes.
Bluewater is planning to construct a wind farm several miles off the coast of Rehoboth Beach in the coming years. The wind power produced would create green energy for the area, as well as additional jobs and revenue, officials said.
Bethany Beach has long been slated to be one of the local recipients of green energy from the planned wind farm, but the town now finds it could be in the middle of the facility’s operations.
Bluewater officials have presented the town with a plan that would bring cables from the wind farm out of the water at the beach near Garfield Parkway, under the boardwalk and down Garfield Parkway to Kent Avenue, where they would be routed south to a Delmarva Power substation.
A presentation by Bluewater representative Rob Propes outlined work to be completed in the beach and boardwalk area, which he said would take place in the off-season.
