World may not be warming, say scientists

Jonathan Leake

The United Nations climate panel faces a new challenge with scientists casting doubt on its claim that global temperatures are rising inexorably because of human pollution.

In its last assessment the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) said the evidence that the world was warming was “unequivocal”.

It warned that greenhouse gases had already heated the world by 0.7C and that there could be 5C-6C more warming by 2100, with devastating impacts on humanity and wildlife. However, new research, including work by British scientists, is casting doubt on such claims. Some even suggest the world may not be warming much at all.

“The temperature records cannot be relied on as indicators of global change,” said John Christy, professor of atmospheric science at the University of Alabama in Huntsville, a former lead author on the IPCC.

In other news, scientists report that permafrost and the Arctic ice cap are melting for no apparent reason whatsoever.

2. this is the enemy
the truth, if it exists, says putting artificial carbon into the earth's 12 mile thick airspace in the tens of billions of tonnes per year (70 million tonnes per 24 hr day!) has got to affect light and heat retention etc; iow the biosphere. But money spent by 'deniers' assures a greed driven humanity that, eat/drink/be merry, when that was sarcastic advice even in biblical times! They call themselves 'Christians' yet mock the very advice HE gave the people despite them- and the enviroment wasn't in danger back then. What was wrong, then and now, was the reactionary rightwing ease in telling lies, and getting the world to base its policies upon expensive promoted falsehoods. 'Fukk them jackasses' (a quote from their own offspring, sure as heck, someday soon!) but meanwhile, let's throw the numbers at them...

3. Which He Are You Referring To?
Could you be so kind as to tell us which "he" you were referring to? Some of us might want to use this article to refute climate change deniers and knowing which "he" belongs to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the Public Policy Institute, and other right-wing (so-called) think tanks would be a BIG help.

5. So the warming is restricted to the places where we're measuring it . . .
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 08:21 PM by MrModerate
And the causes of this warming (which clearly can't be affecting the areas where we're not measuring it) are all man-made.

I was much happier when such knuckleheads restricted themselves to trying to count the number of angels that could dance on the head of a pin.

6. So what the article is saying...
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 08:38 PM by Technodaoist
Is that the idea that Climate Change is a warming trend created by man-made activities should be mocked and laughed at because (wait for it)

The data has been tainted by local warming trends due to man-made activites...

Sheer unadulterated BRILLIANCE.

(just thought I'd continue on your thread)

on edit - Here is where I saw this talking point propaganda article referenced... The Money Times indeed...
