The collapse is thought to have been accelerated by warm summer tempertures which caused meltwater to fill crevasses along the landward side of the Larsen shelf, leading to intensified pressures within the sheet structure.

The photos were taken by LANDSAT-7 of NASA, showing how the collapse of Larsen B dramatically influenced multiple ice glaciers that filled the shelf.

The '03 pic is from February (late summer), so it would be warmer - or at least less cold - than in the April '02 pic.
