Here is a nice profile piece on emerging photovoltaic company, 1366 Technologies. The company boasts a unique way to produce cheap silicon solar cells; there is a video highlighting their process:
If you build a better solar cell, will the world flock to your door? Well, 1366 Technologies is counting on the idea that building a cheaper solar cell will get the attention of the solar energy market.
The cost of producing photovoltaic (PV) panels is one of the biggest obstacles to the widespread adoption of solar power. But, 1366 is in the process of developing two different technologies that will substantially reduce these costs and can be easily integrated into existing manufacturing processes.
The first technology is called “Direct Wafer,” and was recently awarded $4 Million from the Advanced Research Projects Agency -- Energy (ARPA-E) of the U.S. Department of Energy.
