Today, we saw it as we drove past the river here in Battle Creek. It's sad and disgusting, but at least they're trying to clean it up. My daughter is just heartbroken about it.

We need to get off oil, period. I was dismayed by a fundraising "survey" I opened yesterday and on their list of the 14 issues they want ranked in order of importance not one directly addressed the environment. The closest item was "energy independence" but while not supporting unstable or repressive regimes is one good reason to import less oil, there are plenty of compelling reasons to wean ourselves from fossil fuels regardless of the source.
