The nation's largest municipal utility approved a plan to buy 100 megawatts of generating capacity from a Utah wind farm and also advanced two 10-megawatt solar photovoltaic projects closer to its service territory in California.
The department also is adopting new transmission technologies that will help it incorporate more solar and wind production in its energy mix.
The Milford Wind Farm Phase II is an expansion of an existing 200-megawatt wind farm that began delivering electricity to Los Angeles in November 2009. The city receives 185 mw of the existing capacity.
