A Road Through The Great Smokies NP?
Edited on Fri Nov-14-03 02:55 PM by BeFree
There is a move afoot to build a road through the Great Smokies National Park, in North Carolina.

An Environmental Impact Statement is nearing the end of it's public comment period.

Anybody is free to enter comments about this situation. Go to:

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This road, if built, will traverse an area that is probably the largest roadless area left in the eastern U.S. Totally within the boundary of the National Park, the road would turn what is now wilderness into an amusement park for poachers and drive by litter bugs.

Several trout streams will be crossed by the road and the estimated cost of the road runs in excess of $150 Million dollars. The National Park Service has been opposed to this road being built, but several anti-Park congressmen have pushed to open up this last remaining wilderness area to development and ecological insult.

The Roadless Rule was Clinton's deal, and heresy to a supply-sider. Or a snowmobiler, apparently.

Ethical Misconduct: Activists Accuse Judge Who Overturned Roadless Rule:

A federal judge whose ruling opened up nearly a third of national forests to timber cutting and other development owns stock or royalty interests in 15 oil and gas companies...

2. Pave the rainforests
This will spark a rise in the economy. Lets put them road workers back to work. Think of it like this. Sure you may have a road running through virgin streams and forests but the unemployment rates will drop if you get enough employees building these roads and bridges. :eyes:
