1. Wow, a huge cut and paste about cut and pasting.
The E&E application would be what?

Nevermind...

Let me guess...

We often hear recycled ideas here, and usually they trace to 1976 and the odd stuff written by that twit Amory Lovins.

2. Unlike you some of us use and post science.
Since you depend exclusively on hyperbolic misrepresentations, I can see where you would not consider access to the content of that material to be important.

3. Um....um....um....
That, I would guess, would be a function of whether one defines "science" as repeated cut and paste jobs from the collected work of Mark V. Jacobsen.

Personally, I have always found work that is solely cut and paste, and contains not a bit of cogent analysis, um, well, boring, but to each his or her or its own...

Have a nice evening.

4. Xpost of reply (with additional information)
The key issue raised in your post is that "validity" depends on the
intended usage of the information being posted.

Use of a brief abstract plus link is perfectly sufficient for most cases.

Use of an extended extract from an open access document might be useful
for the first time that the link has been published.

Use of multi-page mindless cut & pastes of exactly the same document
(open access or not) is deliberately spamming a thread with the sole
aim
not of informing anyone but of shutting down the debate because
it is going in a direction that the spammer does not like.

You have a valid point with regard to highlighting the validity of an
open access document if it is provided to inform.

On the other hand, you cannot hide behind "EFF support" when the purpose
of the extended pasting of exactly the same material for the thousandth time
is purely to disrupt.

I alerted on one of your posts that was subsequently locked and combined
with the original copy, not because of copyright issues but because it
was deliberate spam. I agree with you about the reproduction of genuinely
informative open access documents but that does not excuse the disruption
of repeatedly posting multi-page screeds as a less than subtle tactic to
shut down the thread or subthread.

5. I'd say that your perspective is the more self serving.
First, "validity" has nothing to do with what I wrote.

I'll repeat the same thing I've written previously in defense of posting full abstracts and summaries:

A KNOWN tactic by some who spread LIES in any venue is to simply repeat the lie as often as possible. This is particularly effective when the rebuttal to the lie is rather long and complicated. It becomes a simple matter of arithmetic to win by spending 30 seconds posting a lie that requires 45 minutes to compose a spontaneous response to. In economic terms the time cost of responding to the lie is prohibitive and eventually the lie will therefore receive far more exposure than the truth.

I'm sorry but your indignation would be a hell of a lot more convincing if you spent as much time taking those spreading lies to task as you do worrying about "spam" that offends your sense of balance. However the fact is that you reserve ALL of your criticism for those defending renewable energy sources against false assertions so bizarre they can't help but offend any person with normal ethics.

Really?

19. Irony?
You do realize that your posts are archived and subject to retrieval and analysis, don't you? I am absolutely certain that if we were to invest the efforts we'd find that of the times you enter a discussion on renewable energy or nuclear energy you seek to enhance the position of nuclear supporters. So please spare us the sanctimonious claptrap.

If I ever have grandchildren, I look forward to telling the sagas of Josh the valiant and Kris the mindnumbingly repetitive. Some sort of campfire may be involved, with smores.

12. Campfire with smores, you say?
This is more on the scale of creating a new shaman of the tribe. It's going to be a lifelong study, culminating in one or more psychedelic journeys before the initiate truly understands the scope of the tale, and the magnitude of what lies ahead.

15. Hmmm. I think it depends on the marshmallows.
Edited on Thu Sep-30-10 01:46 AM by Dead_Parrot
If you're making your own out of egg whites and Althaea officinalis then yes, but I'm not convinced the things called "marshmallows" in the shops are renewable, biodegradable or even carbon-based.

Graham crackers are obviously as renewable as the buffalo turds they are made from (roll turd flat, cut into shape and bake in sun for a week), and proper chocolate is probably OK.

Before anyone asks:

2 egg whites
1 tsp vanilla
1/2 cup raw cane sugar
1 tbsp powdered Marshmallow root

Whip egg whites until almost stiff.
Add vanilla and whip until stiff.
Then whip in the sugar, 1 tsp at the time.
Finally, add Marshmallow and whip again.
Place by teaspoonfull on cookie sheet. Bake in 325F oven for 1 hour.

20. This sounds like a problem from Logic I
Chocolate melts in your mouth. Anything covered in melted chocolate is good.

Therefore, anything that you put in your mouth is good? Or anything that you put in your mouth is melted? Or anything that you put in your mouth is chocolate?

Logic is hard. :(

36. Sounds like a psychologist version of the old "police recruit" joke.
Some psychology freshmen are having an end-of-term exam.

Question:
"As a field psychologist, you are called to DU and wind up in E/E. There is a flame war raging between a someone with Ganser syndrome and a Tourette's sufferer over grid stability. You are about to intervene when an anosognosic and a sufferer of grandeur delusions start arguing over nuclear waste. A sociopath is insulting everyone, some paranoid dude is blaming big corporations for everything, someone with OCD is inserting the same block of text into every thread to improve it, and a serial substance abuser and someone with an electra complex are throwing smores at each other. Where do you start?

Answer:
"Throw away clipboard, mingle with crowd"

Edited on Fri Oct-01-10 08:16 PM by Dead_Parrot
Flicked on a few days ago: At 5pm there was a cold southerly wind that smelled of penguin shit and illegal whaling; by 8pm it was a nice northerly that smelled of pacific garbage gyres. Plus it's a La Niña year, so hopefully not too many raging bushfires and powercuts because the hydro lakes are empty.

Happy days. Indeed, an afternoon stroll to the tavern may by order.

How's N CA? Summer hanging on by it's fingernails, or are you sliding into winter now?

Edit: Ginger beer is now happening, so long as I can leave it for 24 hours. :9
