Breaking: Fire in Alberta Oil Sands Injures Three

A fire has broken out in an Alberta oilsands production site located in Fort McKay.

At 5:30 EST, after an apparent explosion, a fire was started in the site's primary upgrader -- a facility which turns bitumen into crude oil. Upgraders are the most important part of an oil sands project, and also the most expensive component. Three workers have been reported injured, one with third degree burns.

All other employees have been evacuated and the site's owner, Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. has shut down all operations indefinitely.
