Shell lays of 128 more Corrib workers (Ireland)
August 08, 2005 18:34

In the latest developments in the Corrib gas controversy, another 128 workers are to be laid off at the site of the €300m gas terminal at Bellanaboy in north Mayo. The men have been employed by a sub contracting firm in engineering and ground work at the site.

Shell said it was forced to lay off the men because of the continuing blockade of the site by protesters. It said it deeply regretted having to do this.

91 other workers have been laid off at two other Shell sites in recent weeks. The company said it had no choice but to make all 219 redundant because of the ongoing blockade of its sites.
