"Quiet investing" going on in renewable energy.
Month plus old article, but worth the read, as it identifies who many of the players are:

This is an area where we've been seeing a lot of quiet investing going on," said Mark Heesen, president of the National Venture Capital Association. "People are saying so far it's more talk than action, but I think there's been a lot of sub rosa action."

This month, two of the area's top firms - Kleiner, Perkins, Caufield & Byers and Mohr Davidow Ventures - made large investments in solar energy companies. One, Miasole, based in San Jose, brought in $16 million in a fund-raising round led by Kleiner Perkins. The other, Nanosolar of Palo Alto, raised $20 million from investors led by Mohr Davidow. And on Tuesday, Energy Innovations, a company building advanced solar panels that use mirrors to track the sun and capture energy on storage cells, announced that it had raised $16.5 million in venture capital in a round also led by Mohr Davidow.

1. As with any great change, fortunes will be won and lost.
There will be at least some people who get very, very rich from astute/lucky investments in alternative energy sources. If only I could remember where I put my magic 8-ball, my fortune would be assured!

2. I don't have a link, but I read in a thread on DU that The Bushies
just invested heavily in alternate energy, so that should tell us all something.

5. Yes, it was solar, but have no idea what company. Would be
interesting to find out which company and then watch it for awhile.

...to build solar-panel tent fabric.

7. I did find that company being touted by financial articles, but did
not find a symbol for the company under MSN money or anyplace else. The also mentioned Energy Innovations and I couldn't find that one either, but will keep looking for both. I have a feeling you're right about Nanosolar though - that would make sense the Bushies' would want to invest in that. Thanks for the info.
