Japan - China to ban imports of farm products from Japan

SHANGHAI--China will ban the import of farm produce from 12 areas in Japan, including food, edible agricultural products and feedstuff, the official Xinhua news agency said on Saturday.

Xinhua provided no details on the affected areas. Several countries have banned agricultural and animal imports from the areas near Japan's tsunami-damaged nuclear plant because of fear of radioactive contamination.

According to China's quarantine authority, China will ban imports of farm produce from 12 areas in Japan.

China said earlier it had detected 10 cases of ships, aircraft or cargo arriving from Japan with higher than normal levels of radiation since mid-March.
