Status of TEPCO's Facilities and its services after the Tohoku-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake(as of 4:00PM)

Due to the Tohoku-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 11th 
2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been 
severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience 
caused. 

Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities.

«Nuclear Power Station»
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station:
       Units 1 to 3: shutdown due to the earthquake
       (Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections)

*At approximately 6:38 AM, April 12th, a fire broke out at the 
 distribution switchboard containing batteries located in the sampling 
 equipment switchbox situated close to the south water discharge channel 
 for Units 1-4. The self defense fire fighting team began extinguishing 
 this fire soon after it broke out. At approximately 6:45 AM, this 
 incident was reported to the Futaba fire authorities. 
 Efforts to contain the fire were successful and there are now no more 
 flames or smoke emanating from the switchbox.
 This incident did not impact the external release of radioactive 
 substances or the cooling capability of the reactor. The data taken from 
 the monitoring of the environment in the area did not change.
 At 9:12 on April 12th, Futaba Fire Fighting Head Office confirmed fire 
 extinguishment at the distribution switchboard.

*Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities due to the 6.8 magnitude 
 earthquake centered in the Fukushima-Hama-dori earthquake which occurred 
 at approximately 2:07 pm, April 12th 2011,

 -No shutdown of the off-site power of the units 1-6
 -No abnormalities in water injection to the reactor of the units 1-3, 
  nitrogen gas injection to the reactor containment vessel of unit 1
 -No abnormalities were detected in the parameter of each of the units.
 -No abnormalities in the data taken from the monitoring before as well as 
  after the earthquake.
 -We advised workers at outdoor to evacuate in the key earthquake-proof 
  building after the quake We confirmed that there were no injured workers, 
  we cancelled the evacuate advice at 3:05 on April 12th, 2011.

*April 12th we conducted sampling water at fuel pool, to assess the 
 situation of spent fuel in fuel pool. We will analyze nuclide from now

Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station:
 Units 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake
-There was no impact from the 6.3 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was 
 at Fukushima-Hama-dori which occurred at approximately 2:07 pm, April 
 12th 2011,

Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station:
 Units 1, 5, 6, 7: normal operation
 (Units 2 to 4: outage due to regular inspection)
-There was no impact from the 6.3 magnitude earthquake whose epicenter was 
 at Fukushima-Hama-dori which occurred at approximately 2:07 pm, April 
 12th 2011

«Thermal Power Station»

-Hirono Thermal Power Station Units 2 and 4: Shutdown due to the 
 earthquake
-Hitachinaka Thermal Power Station Unit 1: Shutdown due to the earthquake
-Kashima Thermal Power Station Unit 6: Shutdown due to the earthquake

«Hydro Power Station»
-Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the 
 earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.

«Impacts on Transmission Facilities»
-Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the 
 earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.

«Avoidance of further Implementation on Planned Rolling Blackouts and 
Request for Conserving Electricity Consumption» 
Currently, we are working to restore electricity supply after our nuclear 
and thermal power facilities were severely damaged by 
Tohoku-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake. The widespread understanding and 
cooperation of our customers to conserve electricity have contributed to 
the improvement of this tight power supply-demand balance situation.
Amidst this backdrop, in principle, we have decided not to implement 
further rolling blackouts. However, we must sincerely ask for your 
continued cooperation in reducing electricity consumption due to the 
possible increase in demand caused by warmer weather or unexpected 
trouble at power stations that are currently being restored to service. 
In case the electricity supply-demand balance becomes tighter than 
expected, as stated, we may reluctantly restart the implementation of 
rolling blackouts. We kindly ask for your cooperation. We will do our 
best to maintain this policy of avoiding further implementation of 
rolling blackouts during the summer.
