Japanese Experts: Fukushima is more serious than Chernobyl
Health risks numerous near nuclear plant

TOKYO, April 25 (UPI) -- Radiation leaks remain a health threat for areas around Japan's crippled Fukushima nuclear power plant, officials said.

The crisis at the plant resulted from an earthquake and tsunami March 11.

Some experts believe the Fukushima crisis is more serious than that resulting from an explosion at Ukraine's Chernobyl power plant 25 years ago, the Mainichi Daily News reported Monday.

"It's graver than Chernobyl in that no one can predict how the situation will develop," said Atsushi Kasai, a former senior researcher with the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute. MORE AT LINK

2. Simple Question
It's graver than Chernobyl in that no one can predict how the situation will develop

If no one can predict how the situation will develop, doesn't that mean no one knows if it will be graver than Chernobyl or not? Common sense says that if you don't know what will happen, it might end up worse or it might end up better...

3. They don't have just one or two huge unsolved problems
they have a thousand and almost no viable solutions or big picture to work from... it's the biggest disaster this world has known, is that enough for you or are you still in denial?

4.  The biggest disaster this world has known?
By what measure? Lives lost? Homes destroyed? Dollars in damage?

pro-nuke deniers on DU?

Seriously. The "stop saying it's as bad as Chornobyl" argument is a little worn out here on DU. As is the "it can't get any worse"... that was seriously exhausted about 4 weeks ago.

As for getting better, I'm still waiting for that giant radioactive snail to come by and gobble up the plants so this thing can be suddenly and magically resolved. I guess you are, too.

7. Nice non-answer
Care to try again? By what measure is this the biggest disaster this world has known?

8. i gave you an answer...
that is as plausible as the metric of immediate accute radiation deaths-o-meter.

I said,
total number of pro-nuke deniers on DU?

that's my fanciful rebuttal to your pro-nuke industry quips.

I'll save my time and energy arguing in seriousness, for or against, in threads that have content and citations and are generally well reasoned, and not in those self-evident threads where you're you're doing your present ill-reasoned stomping.

10. I see
In response I guess I'm suppose to say that it is the biggest disaster this world has known in terms of the amount of absurd hyperbole anti-nukes have generated?

5. "Biggest Disaster the World has ever known"
?!?

I'm not sure why you would think that. The potential is still there for things to get horribly wrong, but right now it's no where close to being "the biggest disaster the world has ever known".

It appears you scour the internet daily to find and post articles that attempt to make Fukushima "the biggest disaster the world has ever known".

I can tell you that I'm not in denial, nor am I a nuclear energy shill. What I am after is truth and correct information.

9. He suffers from "it's more serious because it's happening to me" syndrome.

The only way cited that this is worse than Chernobyl is that "no one can predict how the situation will develop"?

Heck... 25 years later that's still true of Chernobyl.

11. exactly...

and you've just shot another nail in the coffin of nuclear fission power generation. Decades and perhaps untold centuries later, these things will be thorn in the side of civilization.
