Radiation Readings in Fukushima Reactor Rise to Highest Since Crisis Began -BLOOMBERG
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-04-27/tokyo-water-radiation-falls-to-zero-for-first-time-since-crisis.html

Radiation readings at Japan’s Fukushima Dai-Ichi station rose to the highest since an earthquake and tsunami knocked out cooling systems, impeding efforts to contain the worst nuclear crisis since Chernobyl.

Two robots sent into the reactor No. 1 building at the plant yesterday took readings as high as 1,120 millisierverts of radiation per hour, Junichi Matsumoto, a general manager at Tokyo Electric Power Co., said today. That’s more than four times the annual dose permitted to nuclear workers at the stricken plant.

Radiation from the station, where four of six reactors have been damaged by explosions, has forced the evacuation of tens of thousands of people and contaminated farmland and drinking water. A plan to flood the containment vessel of reactor No. 1 with more water to speed up emergency cooling efforts announced yesterday by the utility known as Tepco may not be possible now.

“Tepco must figure out the source of high radiation,” said Hironobu Unesaki, a nuclear engineering professor at Kyoto University. “If it’s from contaminated water leaking from inside the reactor, Tepco’s so-called water tomb may be jeopardized because flooding the containment vessel will result in more radiation in the building.” MORE AT LINK

1. Oh, man, it's gonna cost Billions
in high-priced PR before we can get our nuclear power program back on track!

5. Except that it's, you know, NOT.
The level of radioactive releases has dropped to the point where Hawaii is no longer detecting much above the background, even with the most sensitive available equipment.

But let's not let actual science get in the way of fear.

6. What a joke, is that all you guys have to be proud of?
Meanwhile the reactors are still uncontrolled and Tepco has no idea what to do.

This mess and the fallout is not over, I guess this is the chance to celebrate
since there isn't much good news and the cancer spike hasn't started yet.

11. I'm sorry to get my facts in the way of your disaster porn.
Exaggerating the situation for the purpose of creating panic is not a valid response.

3. No. 3 & 4 Reactors at Fukushima Plant Seriously Contaminated

* Korea sending nuclear experts

We now take you to Japan where according to Japanese broadcaster NHK, the level of water contamination is rising fast at the No. 3 and 4 reactors of the damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant.

At the No. 3 reactor, the level of radiation-contaminated water underneath the turbine building has risen by 10 centimeters over the last three days to one.one meters.

And at the No. 4 reactor, as the level has gone up by 20 centimeters over the last 10 days the amount of cesium has risen 250 fold.

Meanwhile, Korea's Foreign Ministry says the two countries have agreed that Korea will send its nuclear experts to Japan.

4. 1120 Milli-Sieverts/Hr Inside the Reactor 1 Bldg, But "Water Entombment" Ha

That high level of radiation would indicate the highly radioactive water from the Pressure Vessel may be leaking outside the Containment Vessel, but TEPCO has decided to go ahead with the plan.

---
TEPCO disclosed that during the preliminary survey of the reactor building using the robots on April 26 there was a location that registered 1,120 milli-sieverts/hour, the highest so far for the radiation level inside the plant buildings. It is possible that the highly radioactive water is leaking from the reactor, but TEPCO decided to go ahead with the "water entombment" after no leak was found during the 2-hour survey.

8. We are all being mislead on the seriousness of this disaster....
The nuclear power advocates can see an end to their way of life. The real possibility that public sentiment will turn against this type of power generation.

Arnie Gunderson explains very well how bad it really is....

Check out his site:

http://fairewinds.com/

He is a top nuclear expert that has written articles on Three Mile Island and Chernobyl.

His point of view is critical when trying to understand the seriousness of this crisis.

Also...

Dr. Helen Caldicott addresses this crisis.

All nuclear power plants should start being decommissioned. Period.

Peace to all and good luck in your part of the world... your going to need it.

9. Ms. Caldicott is a kook when it comes to much of anything nuclear
For example: http://www.tucradio.org/Caldicott-TUC-2011_03_31.htm

"So what happens is 200 new elements are made, none of which existed before, all of which are intensely radioactive. And that's nuclear waste. "

Anyone who took high school chemistry want to tell me what's wrong with that statement?

10. It doesn't much matter any more how scientifically illiterate Caldicott is in this area
It doesn't matter if she thinks we have tripled the size of the periodic table inside the nuculars.

Her team is winning.

12. Arnie Gunderson is not a "nuclear expert."
He's a corporate executive whose company makes it's money off of shutting down nuclear reactors. His business depends on terrifying people about nuclear power.

13. And I think the disaster in Japan is proving him correct....
Nuclear power is not worth the risk involved.

Your entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine.

As more radiation continues to be released from Japan, it will continue to contaminate our world.

17. That's because we actually have science on our side.
We understand facts, as opposed to hysterical ranting. We understand that when people run around claiming Fukushima is going to kill 400,000 people, they are lying. We understand that 70 Bequerels per square meter is not a terrifying, pants-shitting level of radiation. We understand that attaching the word "nuclear" to something does not make it magical.
