Good idea! :silly:
OTTAWA -- The federal government is moving to crack down on carcinogenic children's jewelry.
On Monday, Health Minister Leona Aglukkaq announced proposed guidelines on cadmium for cheap jewelry aimed at children, a move she says is the next step in ensuring these products don't end up in stores.
"Our goal is to reduce the level of cadmium in children's jewelry to a level that is protective of health," she said.
Aglukkaq said the government considers wearing cadmium-containing jewelry safe but swallowing or prolonged licking or sucking of jewelry containing cadmium poses a serious health risk. Manufacturers began adding more of the toxic metal to their products when Health Canada tightened its regulations on kids' products containing lead in 2005.
